Constant Vigilance
"I have to admit that I am not always this tuned in to the messages present in advertising, but something about this ad just made a switch in my head go 'click!' I am mostly numb to the 'woman-as-shrill-harpie' stereotype in ads, but combining it with the 'sassy-black-woman' and 'black-woman-with-junk-in-trunk' stereotypes just set me off, and I sat up and took notice of all the other offensive crap in the ad."
I work in advertising myself, but I am happy to say that I haven't seen my company do an ad like the one Juliekins describes. Nor have I seen this ad; have you? If anyone wants to tell Twix what they think, here's your chance.

OMG, thanks for bringing this up. I had forgotten about it, and I DEFINITELY want to write to Twix!
This is one of the most offensive commercials I've ever seen. Even beyond the "fat" issue, I was horrified by the racial stereotyping. I can't imagine what these people were thinking when they approved this for the air.
The best part? The guy eats the Twix so she can't eat it and 'get fatter'. Hey, way to admit your product is unhealthy crap that will make people fat... really makes me want one, right.
Heh. Good point.
Although - I thought he ate the Twix to make his mouth full so he wouldn't have to say anything to her. It's interesting the different ways we see it - some of the comments at Juliekins have different interpretations.
It seems like it was offensive in all versions, though.
To be honest, I thought the ad was hilarious. The woman wearing the pants has a beautiful "thick" hourglass figure complete with a nice firm looking "bubble' backside. As a black woman with a similar shape, I saw nothing wrong with it.
What's the big deal. They were real people reacting in a hilarious way. The guy crammed the bar in his mouth after seeing the girl slap the guy on television so he could only mumble an answer out. I've been there....only wish I had a Twix bar to save my butt. :)
The commerical was onviously written by a white staff of writers. African-American women the size of the woman on the ad would consider themselves "thick" not "fat." 90% of African-American men would be turned on by what I saw on the commercial. This woman was voluptuous and beautiful. She had an hourglass shape, a big hourglass, but an hourglass nevertheless. White folks don't get that, or most don't. the commercial was written for Europeans by Europeans, blacks found it offensive because it doesn't represent our worldview.
Relax I can surely find more important things to get upset about.Foregin policy the economy women with no kids.but No a freakin TWIX commercial.
I think that is one Healthy woman. I wouldnt mind having her number.More importantly I think I would be a bit peaved if the they used a woman who was 400 pounds and not that modest vixen they went with
THE TWIX BOOTY GIRL & THE DOUBLE-EDGE SWORDAs African people, all across the board, it's extremely important to look between the lines always when it somes down to our history and our future, the way are treated and looked upon. So the analysis of any hidden stereotypes is right, just, understandable, and should be taken seriously.
However, this same kind of analysis may otherwise blind us to what actually worked FOR us -- rather than against us -- in regards to the most interesting, most unexpected, and perhaps most revolutionary commercials ever to be aired on American television -- The Twix Booty Girl Commercial!
In fact, we may have just been feeding into the same racism we are fighting against.
Check the situation:
1. Presence of Voluptuous WomanIncidentally enough, the presence of voluptuous -- that is, natural, unenhanced, anti-society, anti-Hollywood standard-type -- women is rising, but most often in health-related or health club-related ads. This is not enough.
It is just as, or better yet MORE important, that women of all shapes and sizes, most particularly those with ample shape and/or full figure are presented in all varieties of advertisements and just as well in all media.
To top that off, they should rightfully be presented in more exotic mannerisms, and not constantly remain concealed by Hollywood producers and their fear of their otherwise supreme physical beauty.
2. Voluptuous Black Woman, ample behindHow many times have we seen nothing but blonde or brunette bikini-clad white women in commercials, TV shows, and those dreaded late-night so-called erotica programs and movies on cable which pretty much NEVER feature black relationship depictions, model features, or sexual relations???
All things considered, The Twix Booty Girl Commercial was practically a gift from God, and the sexiest, most erotic presence of Black womanhood on the air.
To go against this, even if to say that the woman's behind was overexaggerated in the spot, would only further support white Hollywood standards.
To only throw the ball of beauty strictly in the court of overenhanced, falsely-represented women is only disaster for women EVERYWHERE otherwise.
Season 3 of America's Next Top Model featuring not only more natural women overall, but also3 well-proportioned, natural Black women, should ring major bells as a prime exmaple of this.
3. Woman's statement of confidenceClearly, you can see that the woman at hand was neither fat, nor obese, nor even overweight. Her figure is figuratively known in certain circles as "slim-and-stacked".
While the script of the Twix commercial said one thing, the smile sported on her face, as well as the way she contoured her behind toward her mate was a subliminal statement of confidence and defiance, a clear definitive opposite of her questioning her mate if she "looks fat". It was a statement to the world, the viewers.
It was more than mere eye-candy satisfaction -- it was a bold, blatant statement that said "We are here, we love our bodies, and you know you love it too!".
Think about it -- what woman in their right mind is going to SMILE while asking her mate is she looks fat in certain clothing or whatever?
I will speak more on this in the near future. Hopefully this may enlighten a good few, because all of this is important -- for AFrican people to make our beauty to shine once and for all forever.

I don't see what the deal is. Black women pride themselves in have a big ass. I'm white and i'll say right now, she was very good looking and i'd have no problem bending her over a table and going to work on that ass if you know what i mean.
What is this girls name
I would like to know what her name is. Is she also the same young lady on the ampmobile commercial where the guy starts telling these 2 other guys to fight (and they did it), then he told another guy to turn the radio up(and he did it) and then he told the young lady to shake her junk (and she did) then he told the bus driver to hit the brakes(and he did).
