Pap Goes The Erazzi

Discussing candid shots of celebrities. It showed up in my news filter because Kirstie Alley is mentioned as probably the only celebrity who has turned paparazzi fixation on the size of her ass into a career comback.

"Our policy is that we don't run intrusive photos that we think the celebrity would be unhappy to have out there," Wilson says. "So we don't run celebrities without their make-up on, or with their G-strings out, or standing on their balconies scratching their private parts."

Well what fun is that?

I don't think that it is such a bad thing for magazines to print photographs of celebrities when they are "out and about." I realize that it is wrong for paparazzi to stalk these stars in their homes or intimidate them, but maybe if more magazines printed photos of stars without all the airbrushing, lighting, digital enhancement, professional hair and makeup, more people would realize that they are really no more perfect than the rest of us.

It is unfortunate that Nicole Kidman felt "fear for her safety" but I'm also tired of people like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, among others, whining about how they are criticized and pursued relentlessly by the media when they spent their lives trying to become famous and enjoying all the perks being in the public eye have to offer.

Every career has its down-side. Construction workers get callouses. Office workers get back cramps and carpal tunnel. Bartenders often have to work crappy hours. Executives have to put in a lot of hours and don't get to spend as much time with their families. The simple fact is that actors and other celebrities know going in that they will be tabloid fodder, so I'm fed up with all the complaining and resentment that goes on when they do make the front page. Unless the reporter or photographer is endangering their safety (i.e. Princess Diana) then they need to realize that it is an occupational hazard and a part of their job.
