As Of Now, I'm Spelling It Mo'Nique
I love that there's going to be a show called "Mo'Nique's Fat Chance." It's described as a beauty pageant-slash-reality show celebrating self-confident, big women.
"I see big women now showing their arms and wearing miniskirts and out with their dates," [Mo'Nique] said. "At one time, you didn't see a big woman with her date because they didn't take us out because society said, 'You are dating a fat girl. Yuck!' Now, people are saying, 'Yes, we're going to come out and we're going to be proud. We're getting the attention now. It's our day now.' "

Hello.... I am a finalist(1038) from Moniques fat chance. The whole event was amazing! There was so much energy! so many beautiful women! I sit here now with butterflies in my stomach waiting to hear who they are going to pick.I am so tired of not being represented on t.v. I am big, beautiful and not going anywhere.
Many Smiles,
Melissa J
I'm sad to say that I recently learn of this opportunity a little too late. Must definitely wish I could have a chance to attend. Never the less, I wish all the luck to whom ever wins the crown and Hollywood's respect. It's all about how you represent yourself size doesn't matter. You can look good no matter what your size. However, we're on top.
I just learned of Mo'Nique's fat chance watching the BET Awards Show. Had I known about this I would have wanted to attend this event. I've been trying to get into the full figure industry for a long time with contest with MODE magazine, Lane Bryant contest...it's been a long journey and one day I'm going to get there...hopefully next time I'll get this great opportunity.good luck to all the beautiful women that were selected.
I am so sorry I leared about the moniques fat chance contest while watching the bet award show. From that moment I was very determined to become a part of the contest. I was screaming to my fiance, I'm going I'm going!! But I was to late!! Every since Monique did the 2004 award show where she kept changing her gowns she has really opened the door for volumpious women. I have gotten more catches from men then I have in a long time after that show. Thank you Monique
melissa J, please contact me if you get this...my email is f0rbedah0r4w0rse@aol.com (those are zero's) not o's..i wanted to ask you about the audtion..i applied but through tape and i wanted to discuss some things with you about it...
Mo'Nique, I strive daily to exude the confidence you do. I must admit I don't always love myself. However you have inspired me to take what I have, fix it up, make it shine and be proud. Society has treated us as if we are toxic. I am who God made me. I am tired of holding back and keeping my energetic personality captive under my large body. As Diana Ross said "I am coming out"....Best wishes to all the finalists on FAT CHANCE. Go out there and show the world who we really are!

Hello all, I guess this means I didn't get picked (such as life), I have been trying (not very hard) since 1986 to be a full figure model. From then to now, full figure was "NOT IN". I lack a lot of confidence, but to see me you would not know it. My bubbly personality says it all. I'm a devorcee and my X just about took all my self worth from me. I have been trying for the past 4-5 years to come back strong in the modeling world. BUT I CAN'T GET RECOGNIZED. I heard about the contest on the deadline date. I don't have cable and I was at work online trying to send a shout-out to several full figure companies for a possible modeling gig. I sent a lengthy letter and several photo's. I am proud to represent my FULL FIGURE SISTERS in any form I can. I WILL BE IN THE NEXT CONTEST. For the 10 that made it, no luck is needed, you are beautiful, full figured and leaving a huge mark on the world of today. MAY GOD BLESS AND BE WITH YOU ALL.
1-LOVE......KAREN H. "bka" JUCEE, of Detroit
I must say i was rather sad to learn it was to late to enter.I was so excited when i heard about the pageant on the awards but next time i will be thier. So next time let me know please. hammond05n@yahoo.com

Big Beautiful Women....keep ya heads up and be proud of yourselves.... I think Mo'Nique is a rolemodel for all plus size women.... her confidence...self respect..etc. Im glad just as well as all of you that she has created this show.... Because of her my life has changed... i used to be hard on myself about my weight but not now.... i love my mind body and soul.....No one can ever change that so monique if u read this at all......Thank u...andy one who wahts to e-mail me its morganstylechick@yahoo.com
Hey Mo'nique I barely heard about the show and I think it's great I've wanted to do the plus size thing for a long time I wish I had that oppurtunity when auditions were here in L.a. so for the ladys who made it you go girlz
Like many I heard of the contest far too late. However, I do want to congratulate all the ladies that are selected and add that the world you are about to step in is cruel and unforgiving...especially to diamonds of our size...Just look at how they treated Taccara on Top Model. Being a plus size woman takes confidence, intelligence, skill and femininity. We have to stay "Dressed", be smarter and have thicker skin then our slimmer counterparts just to prove we are not lazy, greedy, couch potatoes, as well as to prove that we deserve certain job opportunities. Don't attempt to fit into what the world "currently" thinks beauty is. We diamonds of great magnatute are working to change the image of the world...and will later accept all apologies from those skinny girls who wish they could go on a date, eat a real meal and still have the nerve to strip down in front of their man and put it down like a concubine trying to earn her freedom from slavery...lol...Good luck to you all :)(lavendarjungle@yahoo.com)
HELLO TO ALL THE BIG AND BEAUTIFUL WOMEN. I WAS AT THE CASTING CALL IN LOS ANGELES, AND I HAD A BALL! IT WAS GOOD TO SEE ALL OF THOSE BIG WOMEN WITH SUCH CONFIDENCE AS MINE. ANYBODY THAT MEET ME OFTEN COMPARES ME TO MO'NIQUE, BECAUSE THEY SAY I "ACT JUST LIKE HER". BUT THIS IS HOW I BEEN FOR A LONG TIME... A BIG SEXY GIRL WHO DON'T CARE WHAT SOCITY SAYS.. I AM FINE!
KESHIA FROM L.A.
Its good to praise being big, but being obese is not okay. Excessive Fat is dangerous to your health. And by the look of things I am sure the medical profession will step up and say something. There needs to be a disclaimer. Just like being too thin, being too big is a hazard.
Mo"Nique you are a great inspiration with a lot of influence, I hope that you wont stop at just this one season of the show. Hopefully you will give the rest of us big girls that had no idea of what you were up to will have a chance to show the world what we working with.
Feel free to send any info to radorrough@yahoo.com
Hello all. I just found out about the show and I was of course too late. I would love to know if there is a second show. I think that Mo'Nique is just the greatest. My ex husband constantly told me how horrible I looked, how he was ashamed of me and so on... It took me a long time to get where I am today. I can finally look in the mirror and see a beautiful woman. See the way a woman was meant to look....natural, with curves. If anyone knows of a second show please let me know at dstydream@aol.com
thanks
Amy
Hi to every one out there I just wanted to give everyone a wonderful congrats. And also maybe somone can help me unerstand why is it that none of these oportunites are given to people who do not have acces to a computer such as my self I always have to go to the library or a friends house. I can never find out whats going on in the world or any other things with out a computer. Sorry I m not fortunate to have or afford one as of yet.
I too just learned of this opportunity. And if I knew sooner would've entered. I'm a beautiful full-figured woman. And I adore Monique, because she has shown me that us big women are beautiful too. I didn't have confidence for a long time.I was ashamed of my body and what people said.Men only wanted to use me.Monique you showed me that I'm important and someone loves me.And I love you for that.Thank you girl for my confidence.
HEY BEAUTIFUL LADY'S, I REMEMBER HEARING WHILE I WAS GROWING UP, ( YOU HAVE SUCH A BEAUTIFUL FACE, IF ONLY YOU WOULD LOOSE SOME WEIGHT) WELL GUESS WHAT? I'M STILL BIG AND SEXY AND I LOVE MYSELF, IF YOU DECIDE TO DO A PART 2 PLEASE LET ME KNOW, MDLNDIAZ@YAHOO.COM. MONIQUE I LOVE YOU, YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION TO ALOT OF PLUS SIZE WOMEN IN THE WORLD, KEEP ON DOING WHAT YOU DO BEST.
XOXOXOX
Hello Mo'Nique, I sent an audition tape within the time frame that you requested. I didn't get a response yet and what I would like to know is, will there be second opportunity to audition?
Hello Mon'nique,
I just want to tell you that I am 46 years, look 10 years younger and have dated men up to 20 years younger. I have always been proud of who I am and my looks and have always been complimented on my sexiness, sensuality, looks, sense of style and confidence. A woman can be sexy, sensual and confident at any size, but you must learn to love and respect yourself first and foremost. How can you expect anyone else to love and respect you if you don't demand that of yourself. I just want to say that I have always admired you for your sense of self and admire what you are doing to help other women of size achieve that same sense. I also want to congratulate you on your engagement and pregnancy and wish you joy, good health and eternal blessings with those twins. Be happy always! April !
Hello ladies! I would just like to voice my support for all the finalists on Mo'Nique's F.A.T. Chance, and to thank them for showing the world that ALL women are beautiful, no matter what their size. I've always considered myself a fat girl stuck in a skinny girls body -- where I see sharp angles and uninviting bonage, I imagine voluptuous flesh and soft curves. Thank you for finally allowing me to live my dream vicariously!
im so glade you are doing this i love "bbws" i am also a big guy myself and i really hope you ur show just gets better i myself am also a "luther vandross" look-a-like check my 2 pages-->>

Monique, I am very proud of you and your success. You are the same down to earth sista from Baltimore, and representing Baltimore, we need you to come and have a casting call here. Please!!! There are many plus size, full-figured or thick sistas eagerly wanting to represent how a sista is built and looks in certain clothes. I met you at Barnes and Nobel several years ago, we took a picture and you autographed my book, so I am very excited for you and pray that you continue to be yourself, did not try to fit into the white world mentality and keep telling them like it is...You go gurl
i am so happy to hear big sister are getting their props its do time for us i wish i also would have known about this i would have LOVED to be apart of this but good luck to all the women that got picked and once again SKINNY WOMEN ARE EVIL
Good for you Mo'Nique! Heard your comments about the big clothes in the hidden section of stores, like they don't want the rest of their customers to "catch" anything from us! The other pet peeve of mine is, why do the smaller sizes have the cute styles and great fabric and great tailoring, while big sizes are the insipid embroidered kitties or other junk to make us look totally ridiculous. The fabric changes drastically and the tailoring is hideous. Even big designers like Claiborne and others change the fabric, cut, and fashion of their large sizes. I say let's revolt & let the idiot designers know we also appreciate quality!
Hi! I wanted to write and tell you how wonderful it is to finally get some kind of representation. I've struggled with my weight since the birth of my 1st child 15 years ago. I cry sometimes when I leave department stores because they either don't have a "fat lady" section, or they think I need to dress like a grandmother. I love the elderly, but I'm not quite ready to dress like them! I have actually announced on my way out of stores that I'd be back when I was eligible for Social Security! Maybe one day, they'll get a clue, but until then, I'll keep my distance. No reason to set myself up!
For over a month I have looked forward to watching Mo'nique's F.A.T. Chance -- tonight I cooked before the show came on, sat down ready to relax and eat and enjoy what was going to be a good show -- well it was a FABULOUS show I have been crying for the past 1.5 hours -- I am one and all of those women, and I damned proud NOW to hold my head up and strut my stuff all of who I am F.A.T. -- thank Mo'nique, thank you my new sisters for helping me accept me and knowing that along with you I too can change the way the world at large views "FAT" folks. WE are here to be loved and cherished as human beings no different than the size 12 and under group of folks.
Got go get a nother tissue and watch the crowning. Peace
I just wanted to tell you that as I watched this show I was inspired. To know that im not the only big girl out there struggling to find my inner beauty. I now feel like I can go and take on the world. I realized you dont have to be a size 6 to be amazing. Im so sorry that I didnt learn about this contest sooner.
Check out the comments of Debbie Schlussel (copy website at end). She is one of the reasons that our society is in the worse shape it has ever been in. If we could only control people like this who seem to have power, and may not have had it if she had been overweight. It has nothing to do with talent, maybe she slept her way to the top, (because men like skinny witches) but now she is using this power to the detriment of all women of size. Can't idiots like this be stopped? Check out her comments.....http://www.debbieschlussel.com/archives/2005/07/eeuuww_monique.html
While I applaud all of us for loving ourselves, and I agree that our media gives us a skewed idea of what is "normal", I am disturbed by the lack of realistic information and frank discussion given to the health problems overweight and obese people face. I lost my mother to the RAVAGES of diabetes 6 years ago at age 57. Her death inspired me to lose 50 pounds so that I would not face the same fate. Diabetes and heart disease are occuring in epedemic proportions among women of color, and being overweight is a huge contributing factor to both of these diseases. Our family went through 4 years sickness with her: two amputations, kidney dialysis, stroke (which took away her speech), and finally blindness before she died. It was stressful to us in every aspect. I am looking at the show right now, and all I can think about is what these beautiful women will face in their 50's and 60's if they do not make some lasting healthy lifestyle changes now. I know we get it all the time from the media, and I am not trying to hate on big woman, I was one (and still am not anywere near what most would consider "thin"). I took me over a year to lose the 50 pounds, and I did it with REALISTIC goals and with great gentleness and compassion for myself. No magic pills or fad diets, I had to decide to love myself enough to cut out the junk, learn how to eat in a healthier way, and start moving around. It changed my whole life, and greatly decreased the chances that my children will have to watch me go through what my mother did.
Mo'Nique I really love what you're doing. Not to forget all the things you've done. I have been following you since the early days of "The Parker’s". I love your clothing, and the way you carry yourself.
It was pretty funny when I learned about this show today (I stopped watching t.v. a little while ago). It was like I knew this would happen. Mo'Nique I remember telling my co-workers, friends and family that we needed a Top Plus Size Model show and you would be the best host. Now, not even two years later it's done. I’m so proud that you’re hosting the show, as there is no one better!
I have read several of the commits and I'm thinking this can become a much bigger and more successful show than it already is, if we all stick together, watch, and support the show. Who knows? Maybe there could be state castings having one winner from each state. Then each state winner could compete for a F.A.T. USA grand prize. I know this is wishful thinking but this may be as big as the USA pageant one day. (We’re big, so we might as well think big!) As you can see, there are many women here from different areas that would love to have the casting calls come to their area. I too would love to see this happen.
Ladies we have to remember that while Mo'Nique is changing the world's view on plus size people through her everyday life, comedy, movies, and this show. We can also assist in changing the plus size fashion industry. Some of us are really creative, others of us can sew really well. We have to get into school for fashion designing, become plus size designers, and use our F.A.T. models to show off our stuff. If you're not into designing or modeling but you would like to see a change in the plus size styles, support new designers by setting up or supporting scholarships to help new fashion designers. There are a lot of us that want to go to school for fashion designing but we don't have the funds.
I am very excited about this and I could go on and on! I better stop now. May God bless you all with great success.
keammi4u@aol.com
i think mo'nique came up with a great idea of having a show for full figured woman because god created people of all forms of races shapes and sizes not just 1 in pro-america.
Hello...I watched the show on Saturday and was extremely happy and sad at the same time. Happy that something like this actually happened for "Women of Size". We deserve to be drooled at every once in while and not feel ashamed of our curves. Or feel like just a sex object to feel appreciated. I believe that for health sake you should be careful of being too overweight, but why should you have to hide being a beautiful creature that God has created with the rest of Mankind. The Sad part is: I didn't know where to sign up for the contest to enter it. I hope that in the fuure you have another one, and notify us here in Milwaukee of the date. If not I hope to have the opportunity of one day meeting Mo'Nique and the blessing to work for her in fashion or decorating. Keep on Making us feel good.

"Big Gurls doing Big Thangs"
If it weren't for my "Giantess" fiancee with her Comcast feed, I'd have to miss the show. I have Dish Network myself, for one thing because it's the only carrier with Free Speech TV. Unfortunately, no Oxygen on Dish. :(
It's good to see all the positive reaction to this. I know beauty contests are always a little edgy, having women in such competitions, and having seen the interviews on Insider and ET, it was good to hear Mo'nique say that no matter what, all women are winners, and that her sense of the event's meaning goes beyond the one stage.
Now I'm a thin guy myself, so I speak only as an observer who has yet seen much of this story up very close. Certainly we all know that health is a deeply intertwined subject in all of this. We also know that many of the maladies which afflict fat people preferentially are affected by a number of variables, of which emotional state seems to be increasingly regarded as significant, as is of course physical activity. Both of these variables can only improve in the fat population when they feel better in their skin as Mo' puts it.
One doesn't have to dispute the health statistics to be able to ask why BMI is given such hegemony in the discourse. A more holistic mode of inquiry is under way in the Health At Every Size movement. Tomorrow the NAAFA Convention is starting in San Mateo, CA at the Marriott (http://www.bigsummerfun.com), and the workshop list is heavy with fitness classes as well as political and other subjects, as well as dances, swimming parties, and a fashion show. Thus we hope to raise both fun, consciousness and activity levels for those who come and to whom the attendees bring the knowledge when they get home.
I have always been a fan of Mo'Niques
work. She is beautiful, talented, funny and most clearly a free spirit! I just read online about her new show "Monique's Fat Chance" and it simply brought a smile to my face. I think the concept sets a great example for women to be proud of who they are and feel beautiful about themselves inspite of what is publicized as "the perfect image" in the media, magazines and retail adds, etc... which usually doesn't represent a diverse range of prople.
It sounds to me as though the message of this show is to " accept yourself instead of reject and change in order to fit into a certain size, image or category that may be the trend of the moment" and that is a message that even I can benefit from as a 29 year old male.
As a womens clothing designer in Los Angeles, I am certainly inspired to broaden my young company and design clothes & sizes that suit a broader range of women.
Thank you Mo'Nique!
I am a large woman and I am on NutriSystem to lose weight. I want to be healthy. I don't want fat rolls, trouble breathing, rashes, fear of breaking chairs, intestinal gas, and all the other things that pain me about being fat. I also don't want heart disease, diabetes, and cancer 30 years from now. I love myself and and I am pretty, but no, I do not celebrate being fat. BEING FAT IS NOT HEALTHY!! And Monique was wrong, morally, to encourage women to accept being FAT. She might as well have encouraged them to be alcoholics and drug addicts. I know many beautiful alcoholics. That doesn't make the sickness of their bodies acceptable. I am sure Oprah, who got healthy, would agree (even though this show was on her network. strange.)
Hello!! I just wanted to say how much I loved the show. It's about damn time big girls TOOK the spot light and did the damn thang. Better yet, we were the spot light cause we showed how we too can light up A room. So, since we are the majority I should say............WE LIGHT UP THE WORLD!!! I just wish I could have been on that stage. I should have been on that stage. But, I did not know about it until they were already advertising it on TV. I have always wanted to be a model because I love to get dressed up and made up for the camera. I was SO upset and still am. I just hope that Mo'Nique has another one, and I hear about it in time to try out and be one of the finalist.
Much love from me to you Mo'Nique for doing such a beautiful thing to give us BIG GIRLS some recognition. Like I said.....IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!! YOU MY GIRL FA SHO!!
Much Luv,
Briana

Im not really on topic but I was wondering how I could get in contact with the fabulous Miss Mo'Nique to see if she would be interested in sponsoring a all plus size singing group from Baltimore. However, I do think larger size women are just as beautiful as smaller women and maybe even better.
Hope to hear some good news soon.
Love Hadiyah

Hi Monique my name is Natalie Bruce from Arkansas, and I didn't know about PHAT CHANCE until I saw the award show. And I am truly interested in auditioning to be on the next show. I am sad to say that I didn't get a chance to see any of the show because where I am from we don't get the Oxygen Channel but when I visited my sis in Texas I seen only a small piece of it, but that little bit made want to audition display to the world that JUST BECAUSE I AM BIG DOESN'T MEAN THAT I AM NOT/CAN'T BE BEAUTIFUL SEXY ELEGANT ATTRACTIVE AND BIG ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
Also, I know that I can handle whatever comes my way, because as Big Women that we are we tend to get teased and talked about alot just because of our size,(some of us our own family tease, talk, and criticize us) so going through that all my life and making through all the criticism I know I deserve to let my light shine.

Hey all. As with most of you, I also heard about Mo'Nique's show way too late. As I am also a F.A.T girl. I used to be self conscious about how others percevied me but then I met Jerome and he turned my life around. My baby loves every roll, every dimple, and every stretch mark that I have. It is time for big girls to represent. Big is beautiful. We all need to get together and have a Big and Beautiful Convention ladies. I could used a little R&R. Does anyone know how I might get in touch with some people from plus-sized modeling agencies? email me bbw4dafellaz@yahoo.com. Thanks girls!!!!!!!!!!!

I had my ideal of a pageant for plus size women stolen from me by MoNique. I met her about 3 years ago, I have been working on this pageant since 1992. I shared with MoNique my ideal and asked her to help me. She said it was a good ideal and she would help me. She asked me to fax her information on my pageant which I did. After she received my information, she disconnected her number and I have not heard from her since. Now she has my paperwork, information and ideals and start her own pageant. Why did she take my ideal and don't give me any credit?
I trusted her.

hi monique i am a big fan of yours i wanted to try out for the last show but due to my living conditions i was unable to do so but hopefully next time around i will and my cousin made a song called fat girl lover hopefully when he get noticed you will hear it he wanted on the sound track to your movie fat girl but that didnt work either but thank you for making the rest of the big girls in the world feel as comfortable as myself who is also a big girl and for making the rest of the world see that we are big and beautiful to
I was so happy to see the Miss F.A.T. competition last year. I watched the premiere, and every encore showing after that! I have been a fan of Mo'Nique for some time and she was as lovely as all of her contestants--and the dancers, too! I have been a big girl about 75% of my twenty-six years, and I love Mo'Nique's enthusiastic message. She is a light of hope for us F.A.T. girls everywhere and I hope this movement of hers moves forward and outward, until we girls are the accepted, and publicly desired, norm.
And Miss Mo...should you ever need a plus-sized belly dancer, or if you wanna get in on some free lessons girl, come see me in Columbus, OH. I saw you talkin' about fat belly dancers on the F.A.T. webpage...we're here, baby!

I met Mo'Nique and talked with her in Louisville, KY when she came for the comedy show on July 1st. I would love to talk to her again because she really touched my soul. DOes anyone know how to contact her? I she is famous and I am sure that many people try to contact her, but I do not look at her as a famous person. I look at her as a normal sweet beautiful person. If anyone knows how to reach her, me email address is jonesm20@gmail.com. Thank you
