Internet Drama
The Non-Ugly Fats have popped up in the comments to defend themselves. They say it's like a sorority, it's a joke, and we don't get it.
"And you think we have no self esteem? Ok! Sure. Because we realize that just because we're fat, doesn't mean we have to give up on taking care of ourselves. Just because we're fat we can't wear fashionable clothes or get our brows waxed or style our hair."
I can't even parse this. Do they even understand this website?

My previous comment on these "ladies" still stands.
"And for the most part, your esteem gets better after being part of NUF."
If becoming part of this vicious "sorority" so that you can then participate in the feeding frenzy of "hazing" the pledges is something that builds your self-esteem; then I contend that there is something seriously flawed in your character.
"Like a sorority"....
Spoken like women who haven't ever been even remotely involved in one.
The need to put down someone else to feel better about yourself is the antithesis of self esteem. If you are going to put something out into the world, make it positive, not negative. That will really make you feel better. The path to a happier life leads in the opposite direction of people like this. A rating site? Go do some volunteer work. You have too much free time, and you are squandering it.
While I don't enjoy the hazing nature of the application process, NUF is the only media source where I can, on a regular basis, find cute girls WHO LOOK LIKE ME with cool outfits and hairstyles and makeup...who are then complimented. As a fat girl with six thin sisters, surrounded by movies and tv and magazines in which I do not exist except as a "before" picture, this is an invaluable resource. When a store doesn't carry my size, when I feel like nothing looks good me, this website and the cool, confident, curvy girls who regularly post pics of themselves looking darling, always makes me feel better. I think it's important to have some sort of application process, to be sure that the photos themselves are technically well-done, and the clothes are actually attractive. The site would be shitty if everyone posted blurry photos of themselves wearing sweatshirts and pj bottoms. And I've noticed that while some members are pretty snarky and mean to applicants, many members simply post "yes" or "no".
I think I'm quite happy not to see the point, if that's what I'm doing.
Evidently you'd have to be a Marxist to want to join. As in Groucho, not Karl: "I don't want to belong to any club that would accept me as a member".
Does wearing sweatshirts or pj bottoms make you ugly? I don't think so. Not that I'd particularly want to be photographed that way (except maybe on Christmas morning) but I don't see what it's got to do with being ugly or not.
Maybe we should have a weekly "compliment me, Internet!" feature. I will post a picture of myself looking hot, and then you all will compliment me. You can mail in your pictures, too. We'll take turns!
No, sweatpants and pjs don't make you ugly! But I check out the site so I can see fashions akin to what other girls my age wear, only on bodies shaped like mine. It's refreshing to see proud, larger bodies with clothes I love. Just like when Mode was around, or when 17 or Bust actually has a true plus-sized model! But I agree that the whole "non ugly fats" isn't a fun, positive title, and the hazing isn't my style. That's why I've never actually joined the site. I have mixed feelings...it isn't an ideal site by any means, but my options are extremely limited when it comes to finding pics of girls wearing nice, trendy clothes above a size 14...with the exception of the Torrid site, which I also check out a lot...with no mixed feelings.
"I can't even parse this. Do they even understand this website?"
Ummm. That would be a "NO".
I kind of agree with the last anonymous - it is cool to see people who proudly acknowledge that being fat does not automatically mean being ugly. But the particular comm is so full of hateful nasty people that there's no way I could bring myself to join it, except maybe for pseudo-anthropological purposes.
comning from someone who tried to join, I was called plain, boring, tragic and not ugly. I was also told I need a hair cut and my fashion is horrid. I am a fatty, I admit, but I am still wondering why the way I dress means anything.
