Brush-a Brush-a Brush-a
This is kind of silly and interesting: a Japanese study found that there's a correlation between how often you brush your teeth and how slim you are. The slimmest people brush after every meal, three times a day.
"Overweight men sometimes went more than a day without brushing their teeth, according to the study, published in the Journal of the Japan Society for the Study of Obesity."
It is a well known diet trick to brush your teeth to keep yourself from eating, so this does kind of make sense. But my favorite was the quote at the end: "The results do not mean that brushing in itself constitutes a fat-burning exercise."

New exercise workout idea - "brush your way to a slimmer body!" (Some men went more than a DAY without brushing there teeth???!!! Eeeeeewwww.....)
My guess is that this is probably another manifestation of the fat/class correlation. More money-->more dentist's visits-->more emphasis on oral hygiene. Just a guess.
You know what the saddest thing is? I'm not at all surprised by men not brushing teeth for days.
Oh the human race >_<
I know a friend that does that. She brushes her teeth after she eats, so she won't want to eat anything more. It's a good idea, I mean who wants to eat those snacks when your mouth tastes like toothpaste and Listerine?
Ewwwww....
If you brush your teeth too often, on the other hand, you can erode the enamel. I think 3 times a day is the recommended maximum.
I've never found brushing my teeth to be an appetite suppressant, exactly, but I suppose in the evening I might think "Well, I can't eat anything now or I'll have to brush my teeth again." Might be worth a try doing it sooner after dinner, I suppose...
I can already picture this weight loss plan on the front table at Barnes & Noble.
eeeeewwwwww is right, Rachel!
Maybe there's a correlation between regular tooth brushing and the discipline required to maintain a diet/fitness program.
