Tight Fittin' Jeans

A cute article that reassures us of one thing we all have in common, no matter what size we are: we're all on the quest for that wardrobe holy grail, the perfect pair of jeans.

"Saliscente said there are a lot fewer options with plus sizes... And most of the options out there for full-figured women just aren't Saliscente's thing. 'There's a lot of stuff they do to try to make people look slimmer,' she said. 'They aren't the most comfortable thing on the planet.' ... Stiff, structured denim designed to slim bigger women doesn't work for her. Neither does a lot of bling or attention grabbing styles."

By "bling" she means sequins and applique, of course. And my contribution to this discussion: hold out for the perfect straight leg or flare leg designs. No tapered leg designs. No, no, no. I don't care if you're a size zero, that shit just ain't right.

When are jeans makers going to get the picture that most women's waists are smaller than their hips? I've got some serious booty and I have the problem more than most women. I've tried on those fancy high end designer jeans and ended up in pants that fit like a vice around my thighs and yet had FOUR FULL INCHES of extra waistband in the lower back. Lame.

Amen! Jeans-hunting can SUCK.

Its a lot easier to find OK-fitting pants and jeans now that I'm a size 16, not an 18 or 20 or 22. I went through a phase of buying men's skater-style jeans, for some reason they fit better, even though I've always been an hourglass.

It was pretty miserable, I felt like an overdressed freak at a lot of events because everybody would be in jeans and I'd be in a long skirt. Looking back, perhaps other people thought it was cool, that I had my own style, while I felt very silly.

I get Gap Long. Sometimes the gap (no pun intended) at the waist is a little smaller when the inseam is long enough get up to the crotch, and then the material actually meant for the booty is not around your hamstrings. Then you can tuck your shirts and wear belts (yeah, I said it) and it doesn't look like you have a gap at the waist, because the material from your shirt fills it in.

Also Mom gets her jeans from Silhouette and they look cute on her. They have a catalogue and mail order.

Also I highly recommend denim with spandex if your size changes a lot (I've seen sizes 12-14-16-18-16-14-12 in the space of a year many times; anyone else?).

Rosemary, people thought it was cool that you had your own style.

The lower waistline has been the best thing for me. You don't have those 4 leftover inches around your waist.

I agree about some spandex. It's a better fit for me.

Awww, thanks littlem.

So funny that I remember being so ANGSTY about it, when now I happily wear blue sneakers, green pants, and a pink tshirt, and today I walked from my car carrying a lavender children's umbrella decorated with a smiling butterfly, complete with stick-up wings and antennae.

But not owning jeans...there's a fashion faux pas.

Oh, I found a pair of tehari jeans at Marshalls that fit very well on my size 16 bum and size 12 waist. So there's a brand for other booty-itis sufferers to check out.

I find that JCPenney's is getting a better selection of fashionable jeans. While I shy away from most embroidery and sequins I absolutely love whiskering and fades, so to finally see that in jeans in my size is wonderful, especially when they are low cut with a hint of stretch!

Tapered jeans were never right. I don't care how many people wore them back in the day, they were never right.

I've got a booty but no hips--just straight up and down like a guy, then this big caboose. I finally faced reality and got men's Levi's 517s, which is just about a perfect fit for me. And these jeans are tough!

I had been wearing the Levi's women's 550, which has stretch, but after a few washings they would shrink and give me a wedgie with muffin top. Not a good look.

what about the non-assed amongst us? Oooh, I hath and detest the muffin top, especially when the trousers or dungarees also require a belt. After being caught wearing "Mom Jeans," a la SNL, my younger sis marched me over to the gap. She almost dropped her Vera Bradley when she found "the perfect pair" for me. I call them my "teen jeans," and wear them to punish all others who settle for the slop in stores now. That is what I tell myself.

I HATE jeans shopping.
1.)A size x in one brand is not a size x in another. A size x in one brand is not the same as a size x even in the SAME brand. Both otherwise identical pairs will fit differently.

2.)When you try them on in the store they fit fine. When you wash them, they shrink so tight that they're uncomfortable to wear. You can't sit down without them leaving angry marks on your belly, or leaving seam lines on your thights.

3.)You have to wear them at least once to get them back to that perfect store fit. Then...they start to loosen. After two wearings you are able to slide them off your booty...even if you're a little pear shaped, off they come!

Jeans are the devil.

I recently taught myself to sew and clothes shopping has never been the same. The sizes of jeans in the stores are way off from jean patterns. This is a phenomenon that started in the '50s when designers started shrinking the numbers to make customers feel better. This is why no two sizes fit.

If I want to buy a pair of jeans, I'm a size 4. If I want to make a pair of jeans, I'm a size 10.

Anyone here familiar with the Brazilian jeans market? Seems brazilians like to design jeans for women's curves more than U.S. manufacturers. My friend came over and tried on a pair. She had the biggest butt I ever saw. She fit (barely) into my Brazilian jeans. Anyways, whats the concensus here? I heard Jlo, B Spears and such like them a lot.

I'm familiar with the brazilian jeans, and have been wanting a pair every since because 1) they tend to fit a woman perfectly, 2)they're sexy and 3) they are rare to find in my area, if not anywhere in the U.S.

But I hate them becuase their size range is very limited. And its only available online and jeans shopping via internet is just as scary as the real thing. The sizes will usually stop just under my size, which is a 11, 12, or 13.... And I'm not fat! But jean companies, especially sexy trendy ones, think women my size are!

So far, I have yet to find the perfect pair. I've come very close, with a pair of YMI jeans from Dillards. They actually fitted comfortably in the crotch, had the perfect amount of stretch, they were trendy, and they were unlike all the other baggy, crotch-pulling, high water YMIs I've ever owned. But, I wore them so much, they shrunk and they still fit, but they are flapping around my foot, which I hate because I'm tall and like long, ground-touching jeans/pants (eg. 36/37" inseams for me). And that pair is on the "archive" section of my closet now. I can't find them @ dillards, ebay, or anywhere on the net for that matter...I will miss them.

So the search continues...

Ps. If any of you know a store/ website that offers LONG (see above for inseam length), sexy jeans, hopefully brazilian jeans or similar, in a size U.S. 12... Please respond or email me thanks.!

Brazilian jeans are the best to go. I am tall and very athletic AND curvy (ass, hips, and small waist). There was a pair of brazilian jeans i found at this Urban store a while back and at first glace looking at them u wouldn think "no way in the hell am i fitting in those" because the leg looks so skinny...i dont know what material they were made of but they slid on great fit likea glove and the inseam was lik 36-38 inches. I bought 3 pair right then and there of the same color.
The brand was called "XCESO".
That store doesnt carry them and i cant find them anywhere on the internet. If anyone knows anything about the "XCESO" jeans ...particulary the extra long ones. PLEASE holler back

jeans are a mass market product still, and most companies want to also sell to the largest demographic group, so it's hard to find companies that specialize in niche jeans that fit various body types. especially problematic is Brazilian jeans, since Brazilians in general have a much different type of population than the USA. Lengths, and widths are really limited, but good for curvy bodies generally.
