Big Fat Deal
So what's the Big Fat Deal? Well, at the risk of getting all mission-statementy, I think it's important to call attention to issues of weight in the media, pop culture, and society. If we can convince at least one teenage girl that Ashley Olsen isn't "the fat twin," we will have done our job.

OMG... I actually feel ill. Trainwreck is right. I want to look away, but I can't.
This is an organization that allows the ostracized to become the ostracizers with all of the viciousness that goes along with a junior-high social hierarchy.
You have to apply. You actually have to apply to see if you meet their "standards" of both fat and pretty. I see no pretty. I do see a whole lot of ugly. And, I'm not talking about the outside.
No one with a shred of self-esteem would ever apply to be one of these... I don't generally use the C-word, but if I was going to, they'd deserve it.

These women are simply replicating the treatment they received as adolescents at the hands of girls who were prettier and more popular - namely reinforcing their outsider status by calling them cruel names, while simultaneously fawning over those deemed acceptable to join their hallowed clique. Obviously the NUFs view this kind of behaviour as some kind of covetable thin privilege; which, in my view, only goes to show what a sad, misguided little bunch they are.
...and they're rejecting those real people often quite unpleasantly and on arbitrary grounds, much as the average women's magazine encourages us to criticise celebrities, (who, for the most part, get obscenely paid well and lauded in equal measure).
My main beef is with the fact that some of the people they're rejecting are highly impressionable young teenagers. It's mean-spirited and deeply fucked-up.
Girlies, if any of you are reading this, head for the Fatshionista community instead. It's a lot more supportive all round and anyone can join. I notice that a couple of the Fatshionista crowd are also involved with the NUFs. Frankly they should know better.

Except to say that "nonugly" is a really weird and negative way to describe yourself. I could describe myself as nontall, nonblonde or nonAmerican, but it wouldn't tell you a lot about me, and I'm sure it would imply criticism of the things I'm claiming not to be (all of which are actually neutral).
Those whores! Honestly, what right do they have to say who's "nonugly"? I hate it when people are all clique-y and judgemental like that.
I don't know why you're so shocked at this. It is a RATING COMMUNITY. I like how we're the bad guys when the people who apply ARE PUTTING THEMSELVES on the chopping block.
Did you know that NUF isn't promoted at all? We have no banners, we don't drag people kicking and screaming to our community and yet the applications keep pouring in.
And you think we have no self esteem? Ok! Sure. Because we realize that just because we're fat, doesn't mean we have to give up on taking care of ourselves. Just because we're fat we can't wear fashionable clothes or get our brows waxed or style our hair.
Have you ever heard of frats or sororities? Once you get past the hazing period, you're IN it, you GET IT and you're part of it. And for the most part, your esteem gets better after being part of NUF. But deep down, just like frats and sororities, NUF IS A FUCKING JOKE. Jesus flipping pancake christ you people take shit too seriously.
If you want to look at trainwreck communities, go to the ANA ones. Go to the ones that ask the question "am I fat" when the girls weigh less than 100 pounds soaking wet.

Heh. You think that group is bad? Here's one you simply must check out. The group is called "MostPrettyFats" also on livejournal. Ohhh man, this group is filled with:
VISCIOUS,SHARP~TONGUED,ROTTEN,IMMAUTURE Girls who like to think they have grown up, but haven't.
Their application is a joke. The way they treat people is a joke. One contradiction after another,They go against their own rules, and falsely pride themselves as a "positive fat community" in the profile. To be honest, I do not even think the moderator is doing her job, as I personally saved all the abusive message I received, have these people's IP addresses, and livejournal usernames. I feel this group needs to be exposed for what they truly are...and the most funny thing? These fat women are FAR from pretty, yet notice how quick they are to judge a new~comer. What would be appropriate for these closed minded people..is a close minded community.
I agree that this community is severely fucked up. Although, there are a lot of the women in this community thast are extremely gorgeous, a lot of these pretty women are immature cunts. I agree that it is enjoyable to see beautiful girls who have great fashion sense and style despite being overweight... but the way they treat members is really horrendous. The way they shred even the stamped MEMBERS of the community apart is fucking sick. There is a side community, called NUFA, and it is excruciatingly painful to read. It is so terrible the way other members write insulting anonymous comments about other members. I have had so many horrible, demeaning comments posted about me. Whether it be that my hair looks like shit and that i have a dandruff flake, or that I wear the same fucking shirt in every photo, or that I don't wear my makeup just right, or that I have bad skin, or that I am just plain ugly, all the comments are deplorable. It took me so long to get away from the community, but I finally have... I'm not going to lie though, it's hard to stop participating! There are so many cute ladies in there, and there are some really nice people who give you lots of advice on a variety of personal topics. It's like a forum where you can ask for advice, post funny videos or articles, etc... and that part I liked about nufa. It was something to do when I was bored... Unfortunately though, there are also a lot of very cruel cruel members in the community. Many members find it very fun and enjoyable to rag on other members. They honestly think putting others down is fun, and that "oh come on, it's just the internet! Why take it seriously!?" But, the thing is, is that... these are REAL PEOPLE with REAL EMOTIONS behind these usernames and computer screens... Such insulting comments could very easily be hurtful... but to even hint that the comments are hurtful will get you flamed in an instant. It's just very sad, because I was one of the members who did not post mean things. I never insulted members anonymously, and I tried my best to stay out of drama.... except for when someone would insult me. I would argue back, and it would turn into this ridiculous internet argument. Me and the moderator would have huge long pointless debates. And then when my boyfriend broke up with me, a ton of people made fun of me for it in nufa. The moderator went out of her way to repost an entry in nonuglyfats that I had DELETED, just so poeple could laugh at me and make fun of me. Then my best friend in REAL life, who was also in nuf, decided she didn't like me for reasons I am not sure of. she told all of nufa that I was a stupid person and even went as far to make up lies about me that I am a whore and that I have no friends, etc. Let me just tell you, it is FUCKED UP. I am so glad to not be apart of this community anymore, beacuse it is seriously the most fucked up place on the internet. It is so ridiculous how these adult women insult other members so viciously. It makes me sick... even if it is just simply an internet community...
