Any Excuse To Mention American Idol

Kimberley Locke, former contestant in American Idol, is the new spokesperson for Lane Bryant's new Seven7 jeans. (Yes, it's the word seven followed by the number seven. Please note that skinny people clothes do not have such dippy names.)

""We are excited to have Kimberley Locke as the new spokeswoman for our Seven7 jeans... We believe that Kimberley is a great talent and a great beauty who will be a perfect role model for our curvy customers."

I hear her album is good, too!

I'm curious as to what marketing genius came up with the name Seven7 for the new line. Does Lane Bryant really want to come so close to naming their jeans after the movie Se7en, about a homicidal maniac?

"Seven for All Mankind," called Sevens for short, has been a very trendy brand for skinny girls for years. Lane Bryant is courting a lawsuit if they aren't affiliated. No one is exempt from dippy marketing, except possibly men.

A stand-up comic friend of mine (who is not-skinny) used to do a hilarious bit complaining about said dippy and sometimes humiliating names of women's clothing stores that cater to not-skinny sizes. Like, skinny girls get "Wet Seal," which sounds cute and playful, but not-skinny girls get "Dress Barn," as in, "Time to call the cows in, Ma."

Kimberly Locke should have won American Idol that year. Seven7 is an awful name.

Seven7 is a popular brand for smaller sizes. Lane Bryanat is I guess collaborating to make it accessible to everyone.

Actually, I think it's super that Seven7 jeans (which I'm certain are related to the Seven for All Mankind brand) are now available for girls like me. I'm saving my pennies to buy a pair. I think the originals go to a 32" waist, which isn't exactly "For All Mankind" if you ask me!

Express stores have carried Seven7 in the past, so Seven7 is an actual brand name, not something that was created.

"Wet Seal" doesn't really sound so cute and playful and like a good name for clothes once you've seen a seal. Seals range from pretty dang plump to monsterously obese (google elephant seels). They need to maintain their body fat to insulate themselves from the cold water they live in. Seals are fast and streamlined, but they are clearly fat.

I swim, and I wear a black speedo. I am far from svelte and I pretty closely resemble a seal on the swim video tapes (video tapes of me swimming to analyze my stroke). Wet Seal is a more appropriate name for a shop specializing in clothes for overweight swimmers and wetsuits than trendy clothes for the skinny.

Seven7 has been around since before Seven of all Mankind and has been selling in Europe for years. I believe they are registered under the name Seven Disributing or Trading or Marketing or something like that. The company that makes Seven for all mankind only launched in 2000. They are the ones who should be sued. The jeans that Lane Bryant/Express sells are not related whatsoever to the movie Se7en or Seven for all mankind

I bought some Seven7 by mistake at an discount store that carries upscale labels. Although the panst fit well,. I thought that i was getting Seven for All Mankind. I had a pair at home (I barely fit into their 32s)and compared them and realized that the Seven For All Mankind are of a better quality and are more figure flattering. I feel a little ripped off. I paid full price (40 bucks) and probably would have skipped if I thought it was some cheesy brand called Seven7 (seven-seven). At least they are flattering, but I should have waited until they were on sale.

I work at Lane Bryant and the ONLY affiliation we have with Seven7 is that we sell select styles of the jeans. And you can buy them much cheaper at Lane Bryant. Also, Seven7 has absolutely nothing to do with Seven jeans. :)

Can someone finally put this to bed!! What is it Seven Jeans, Seven 7 Jeans or Seven for All Mankind Jeans? Are they three different companies and three different brands. What’s the official story?

This is the unofficial story plucked from the urban grapevine. Seven for All Mankind Jeans started producing extraordinarily innovative jeans in the USA under the banner Seven for All Mankind and made appropriate trademark arrangements in the USA. However, they neglected to make the same arrangements in Europe. This is where it starts to get messy but the saying goes an entrepreneur with an eye for an opportunity, when he saw the success of Seven for All Mankind Jeans in the USA, started to produce Seven Jeans in Europe since Seven for All Mankind failed to file a Trademark application in Europe.

Upon hearing about this development Seven for All Mankind started long and labourious legal proceedings against Seven Jeans for TM infringement. After much legal debate, it was decided that Seven Jeans in Europe should change their name to Seven 7 so to reduce the confusion with Seven for All Mankind jeans which was and is a far superior jean. So, that’s the story from the urban grapevine. Can anyone confirm or deny this. Does anyone have the definitive story?

Do your research so you don't get ripped off! The brand Seven7 jeans are different then Seven(FAM) For All Mankind. Seven7 brand trademark in Italy 1978 and made available to the US by Guez who acquired the brand from the owner in Europe. Seven7 has been in the US for a while now. Available thru dept stores such as Macy's around $95+ (price: $100-250)if it's less and lable is 'made in' (an Asian cntry)they're FAKE! (don't know how they get away selling fakes)

Seven(FAM)started in Cali in 2000 by Koral, Glasser & Dahan, they came up with 'Seven' from Galsser's son (Jeans range $120-290). They made 13mil 1st year, now Glasser & Dahan are suing Koral for hiding profits to finance his own sportswear line. Glasser & Dahan moved out of Koral's facility and started a line call "Citizens of Humanity". There's also a lawsuit against Seven(FAM)by Seven7 for tradmark infringement...What a mess, that's why consumers are confused and getting ripped off. Only lawyers are profiting off of this!!! Hope this help cleared up the confusion=)

i think a friend of mine got ripped off. can someone help clear this up? a friend sold her a pair of seven7 jeans for $100...saying that they were a little over $200 at the dept store. i read one of the blogs that said if the seven7 jeans were made in an asian country (these tags said china) then they're fake. i know that the seven for all mankind jeans are made in usa...but what about the real seven7 jeans? please help me clarify this, as it's causing a lot of problems between friendships....

Seven7 jeans are in no way related to Seven For All Mankind. I work at Lane Bryant and we were specificly told to point that out to all customers as to cause no confusion. Seven7s retail from 79.50 for the basic pairs to well above one hundred. The label Seven7 has been around for quite a while.

The Seven7 brand fits superbly for me, who cares about Seven FAM. I think people declare Seven FAM superior just because of the hefty price tag. They say Seven FAM are all hand crafted (every single pair of jeans created by them), yeah right who believes that, just a way to run with your money to the bank. Seven7 caters to all sizes, and have been on the market for a much longer time than SevenFAM. In conclusion I say wear what you Like, Neither one of the brands are cheap.

Seven7 jeans are a completely different brand from Seven for all Mankind. They are Eurpean and they fit great! The only jeans I can wear. They are available from a size 25 up (in inches). They're great for all sizes. i heart seven7s!!!

Just because Seven7 Jeans are made in China doesn't mean they are fake. Get out any of your jeans, Gap for example and they are ALL made overseas. It is too expensive to hire labor here in the USA, so now companies are out sourcing their labor. My husband works for an upscale furniture company and most all of the furniture is made overseas...that doesn't mean it is fake...Get your facts straight. I sell Seven 7 jeans, and they are AWESOME!!!!! AND MADE IN CHINA!!!!

American Eagle is made in Mexico (look at the tag) and BCBG Max Azria jeans are made in Hong Kong...so I guess all of them are fake too. What a joke!!!!

Seven for all mankind are way more expensive, much more sexier and about 1000% better than Seven7 jeans!! Seven for all mankind are the jeans fergie wears in the music video my humps. Just to clear that up.

you know what, if it's true that Seven for all mankind is now run by some lying SOB who hid the profits from his/her partners to benefit they're own clothing line, I think we should all boycott seven for all mankind and just wear Citizens jeans (if you can afford them of course) becuase they look GREAT! and I see nothing wrong with Seven7 Jeans especially since they've been around the longest. so what if they're cheaper...the company probably understands the concept of making a pair of jeans affordable so that more people than just Fergie can buy them.
